When military families in Gulfport, Mississippi, lost their homes to Hurricane
Katrina – and then lost their service members to deployment in Iraq or
hurricane-torn areas – Operation Homefront leapt to the cause. Operation
Homefront shipped mobile homes from out-of-state until every military family
had a place to live. Food, household items, and other supplies were constantly
shipped as needed. As if that weren’t enough, Operation Homefront shipped
palettes of Easter baskets, eggs and candy to ensure that kids on two Navy bases
could enjoy at least one big day of fun.
While disasters like hurricanes do not strike often, Operation Homefront’s
flexibility and on-the-ground staff allow us to take quick action in
an emergency.
