CinCHouse
Operation Homefront also operates CinCHouse, the largest Web-based magazine and community for military wives and women in uniform. The Web site was cited as one of the 100 most important things to happen on the Internet in the last 10 years by Yahoo’s 10th-anniversary Netrospective. Nearly 75 percent of visitors come to our site due to word-of-mouth and Meredith Leyva’s book “Married to the Military,” which is in its 12th reprinting since 2003.
Mission Statement
Operation Homefront provides emergency assistance and morale to our troops, to the families they leave behind and to wounded warriors when they return home.
Who We Serve
Operation Homefront has processed more than 45,000 cases, including more than 2,100 involving wounded warriors. Operation Homefront serves all branches of the armed forces, including active duty, Guard and Reserve.
The Process
Command officials, chaplains, family support centers and other military nonprofits refer 71 percent of our cases to us. The rest of our cases come through CinCHouse and word-of-mouth.
Here’s how we would handle a typical case:
1. Operation Homefront takes a call from a young family who, in addition to the emotional stress of deployment , does not have the experience or financial resources to handle a crisis that normally
occurs in military life.
2. We work with local media partners and our Web site to request specific assistance (such as car transmission repair services) and then coordinate those services with the family, typically within 24 hours.
3. After the crisis is over, our counselors (often experienced military wives themselves) work with the family to better prepare their household finances, outline the resources available through the military and introduce them to a community of other military families to help them develop a social support network.
4. Few clients need assistance a second time, and many come back to volunteer with other families.
